Coronavirus (COVID-19): Important information from Scripps Health Plan

In response to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Scripps Health Plan is taking steps to reduce costs and extend access to care.

Copays waived for COVID-19 screening and testing

Effective immediately, Scripps Health Plan member copays will be waived for all medically necessary screening and testing related to COVID-19.

Authorizations extended

For Scripps Health Plan members assigned to Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal Medical Center, we have extended all authorizations for the services listed below to remove barriers in accessing services during the pandemic. Providers can see the new date in EPIC or Scripps Care Link.

These changes only apply to the following:

  • Elective procedures and elective services
  • Imaging including mammograms and colonoscopies
  • Durable medical equipment (DME) including diabetic supplies

All cancelled elective procedures — including surgeries and imaging, as well as DME that would have expired between March 16 and June 16, 2020 — have been extended until December 31, 2020. This is regardless of whether the procedure was scheduled as an outpatient or inpatient. Once the procedures can be rescheduled, the previous approval will be valid.

All cancelled elective services, such as office consults and outpatient therapy (physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy) that would have expired between March 16 and June 16, 2020 have been extended until September 30, 2020. Approved services can be received by in-person visits once schedules are opened. Some services are now available by video visits.

Prescriptions by mail

Now may be a great time to consider having your prescriptions mailed to you through your mail order benefit. Download the Scripps Health Ambulatory Pharmacy Medication Enrollment Order Form (PDF, 150 KB) and fax it along with a list of your prescriptions to 619-686-3932. If you have questions about the program, please call 858-964-1013.

Virtual care from the comfort of your home

If you are looking for online care, try the virtual care options at Scripps Health. These online services now offer COVID-19 screening as well as care for other conditions. Members may also use Doctor on Demand (PDF, 1.5 MB) or telehealth services offered through their assigned medical group.
